Bill de Blasio’s victory in the Democratic mayoral primary was notable for the way in which it crossed traditional ethnic lines. Exit polls show he carried (or at least tied) the African-American vote with Bill Thompson, the lone black candidate. And he won the most votes among both women and gays against Christine Quinn, who would have been New York’s first female and openly gay mayor.
Even the Rev. Al Sharpton, a past master of racial politics, was moved to declare that “a lot of the identity politics of 20 years ago, 30 years ago, has now become the identity politics of policy,” adding: “You can no longer take yesterday’s map for today’s politics…
PBS put its late-night leftism on display on Meet the Press when PBS host Tavis Smiley used his slot, on the Sunday morning NBC News show’s panel, to regret President Barack Obama’s supposed touting of “American Exceptionalism” and claim the presumed desire of conservatives in the House, to shut down the federal government, means “we are going to lose our democracy. It’s that serious.”
Smiley fretted that “the President recently, much to my chagrin, spoke of, advanced once again, this notion of American Exceptionalism, and clearly he isn’t the only one in town who likes to push that notion that we as Americans are exceptional…
BerlinThe results of the German election are in and, as expected, the current coalition has come to an end. Although the CDU won a solid 42.3 percent, its junior partner, the FDP, dropped to 4.5 percent, below the threshold for representation in the Bundestag–the first time in its history.
The Alternative party garnered 4.8 percent, also below the threshold but enough to do damage to the current government.
Only two options are left: a Grand Coalition or an SPD-Green-far left alliance. My bet is on the former.
Forty-six percent say the media is too liberal and just 13 percent think it’s too conservative.
Justification for this public sentiment is evident as the budget and debt-ceiling issues heat up and the press can hardly restrain its disdain for Tea Party Republicans and the idea that our nation may really be in crisis.

During the “contradict the title of our show” segment this morning on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Nancy Pelosi touted the liberating benefits of Obamacare:
But overwhelmingly for the American people, this [Obamacare] is a liberation . This is life, healthy life, liberty, the freedom to pursue your happiness which could be follow your passion for good rather than follow your policy and be constrained by your policy. It’s about wellness. It’s about prevention, it’s about a healthier America.
A “liberation,” not unlike the liberation in 1944 that was marked by Douglas MacArthur returning to the Philippines to… mandate that the Filipinos buy stuff they didn’t want…
The growing treatment delays may not be specific to VA centers alone, and whether the delays are tied to worse outcomes, as previous studies have found for breast and other cancers, is unknown, researchers said.
“Our study identified a trend in increasing wait times at VA hospitals that will most certainly continue in the next decade,” lead study author Dr. Ryan P. Merkow told Reuters Health, adding that “large, academic institutions also are dealing with similar issues…
Cuomo, who has yet to endorse Suozzi two weeks after Suozzi’s victory in the Democratic primary, has taken several important steps to strengthen Republican incumbent Edward Mangano, including firing his leading critic, the Democrats say.
D’Amato, a lobbyist with multiple clients who, as senator, was credited with leading the effort that defeated then-Gov. Mario Cuomo in 1994, has emerged as “an important player in Cuomo’s re-election strategy on Long Island, especially in Nassau County and especially in trying to help Mangano,” a source with strong Cuomo-administration connections told The Post…

BerlinBy noon, Eastern Standard Time, everyone will know the results of the German elections. And the most likely outcome is a grand coalition between Angela Merkel’s CDU and the Social Democrats.
The exasperated lifeguard told the mother to make her young son stop urinating in the community pool.
“Everyone knows,” the mother lectured him, “that from time to time, young children will urinate in a pool.”
“Oh really?” said the lifeguard, “from the diving board?”
Instead of prosecuting Aaron Alexis on two separate crimes involving a firearm our politically correct judicial system instead issued him two get out of jail free cards. In addition, the mental health professionals who were supposed to recognize the warning signs instead gave him the benefit of the doubt and never shared their findings with …
